If I Were A Boat ...

IF I WERE A BOAT I would love to float in Vancouver, BC, waters. This photo I took a while ago got me wondering what anchoring at the False Creek area of the city requires. If I were lucky enough to possess a vessel that I needed to dock, I would likely find it more complicated than parking my car at a meter. The rules might be somewhat similar but probably take the wind right out of my sails. The people in the high rise apartments towering over the bobbing boats must be adrift with dreamy views of the harbor. (Click on photo to enlarge image.)

Visitors can get drenched exploring more sites at Watery Wednesday.

  1. I have fond memories of visiting my cousins in Vancouver (I was there twice). But they don't own a boat... lovely shot.

  2. Great photo. I magnified it and it is really interesting. So many people have blue tarps on their boats. So is that like a regulation, you have to cover it in blue? Also most people backed into their spot. I'd be one of those who headed in, and I'd be lucky to get that done.

Also, that is a grand collection of condos on the shore. It's wall to wall. I just love it. It is very different from Oklahoma I can tell you that much for sure!

  3. I don't think there is any regulation about blue tarps, Yogi. LOL
I used to know a lot about these things (in the early 1970s) when my work dealt with pleasure craft, so I might have been able to offer my friend Penelope an explanation about anchoring in the waters of Vancouver, but now I don't even recognize any of the buildings.
One thing I can say, however, is Vancouver has always had one of the most beautiful harbors in the world, and Penelope caught it on a lovely day.

  4. That is a fantastic shot.

I have spent a lot of time in Nova Scotia and Quebec. I'd love to visit BC on day as well.

  10. What a great view those condo dwellers have. False Creek is a very picturesque area. We were just in Vancouver in August. I lived in that area for 18 years before moving to Winnipeg. I don't miss the conjestion, the smog or the roar of traffic one bit.
Your photo is really pretty, though!

  11. Such a great picture! I do remember all those tall condos overlooking the water when I visited Vancouver a couple times. Such a beautiful place and so much to explore. Loved riding my bike around Stanley Park!
    Have a fabulous day!

  12. Hello, Penelope..I am so excited to have discovered your site! I, too, like boats and did my watery post on that today. I live in Surrey and was lucky enough for some years, to be able to go out on the sailboat my Father-In-Law kept moored at False Creek. Unfortunately, now that's he's gone, we rarely get out on the water.

I had a quick glimpse at some of your other posts and love your pictures. As we seem interested in photographing the same things, you might be interested in checking out my site. I will come back and visit again when I have more time...:)
