A little girl named Rue tumbles down the crevice of a second-hand sofa into a secret world where buttons, coins and dust balls are surprisingly animated and in fear of a hot-tempered bully.

The highly descriptive town and its remarkable residents deep inside the sofa offer an entertaining read with a quirky lesson. It will take teamwork and creative thinking to overcome the grouch hidden in the bouncy lettuce-green couch.

The story stems from a real-life overstuffed green sofa that sat in my living room for years gobbling up all sorts of paraphernalia. As the crack in its back widened, larger items disappeared.

The opening got so big that I actually feared my baby daughter might drop through the gaping hole accidentally. Curiosity soon replaced that silly notion and I wondered ... what would someone falling into the sofa find in there?
