IT WAS LATE afternoon at Elgin Heritage Park where I walked recently. There was a lull in the snappy weather. A rain cloud hung in the sky like a large woolly blanket over Nicomekl River.
The tide was so low in spots it seemed I could walk to where the sailboats were docked. There was just enough sheen on the spongy mud floor to cause reflections.
Water trickled into nooks and crannies.
The bench was soaked from a previous rainfall so I stayed standing ...
and watched a break in the cloud dab a soft puddle of light onto the river.

So it is raining down there? From my friends I was getting it's wonderful, sunny, warm the robins have been out since December, lol.
ReplyDeleteAh good to know the real truth.

Such misty wet beauty! There is a silver lining everywhere.
ReplyDeleteSome fabulous cloud formations near the horizon. I love them. And the river...love that river. Clint and I used to love saying "Nicomekl" when we were little, such a great word for kids. And then learning to spell it was lots of fun, too.
ReplyDeleteAre there any signs in Elgin giving the history of the name? Surely it was from the original inhabitants of the area, unlike the nearby Serpentine which is blatantly British.
A beautiful post today, Penelope dear.

What beautiful skies! I love the way you have faded out the edges of the pictures, it makes each one look special and eye catching.
ReplyDeleteYou have captured the beautiful light of Spring between the "wild weather". The weather does not seem to be able to make up its' mind on these first few days of Spring does it?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love these shots. So much beauty in the clouds and reflections on the water.
ReplyDeleteGreat post, -perfect for SkyWatch!

ReplyDeleteall of them are beautiful and interesting captures! My favorite ones are your first and last pic! Have a great wekend:)
ReplyDeleteThose are fabulous shots, Maria! Love the clouds and reflections.
ReplyDeleteKay, good thought. I haven’t seen a sign about the river but will look more carefully next time. The word Nicomekl apparently means "the route to go" or "the pathway" in a language stemming from one group of First Nation people. I wouldn’t be surprised if your dad covered the origins in one of his books. :)
