Here's The Clouds, Here's The Steeple ...

A RHYME came to mind when I went by the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church of St. Mary in Whalley. Looking up at the sky, familiar words rang in my head: Here's the church, here's the steeple, open the doors and see all the people.

I didn’t open the church doors, however. And the only person I saw was me taking a picture of the steeple under a cloud-filled pale blue sky reflected in the car window. As if floating in some heavenly place in the clouds, cars and buildings (click photo for detail) were also reflected.

As the poem says I hope to one day find time to step through the doors of this lovely historic church and see all the people.

There are more skies to view from around the globe at Skywatch.

  9. I remember well this church. That time I saw your shadow as you got closer to the door, this time your reflection on the car window. :) Between the sky and you, Penelope, there is the church with impressive steeple and door.... and mirage. The same thing never happens again, you captured the moment nicely. Have a happy weekend!

  10. Wow, Penelope! That second photo was brilliant! What fun to see your reflection behind the eye of the camera, and those of the cars and buildings in the clouds brought out what seems to me to be the perfect balance of mystique and honesty in the church's architecture.

  11. Love that rhyme...it reminds me of when the kids were little. I use it with my grandson now, and I suppose the twins will hear it in time as well.

I love the second photo of the clouds and buildings reflected in the window. It would be great to meditate with, I think.

Ukrainian churches inspire me, as well...they exude such a sense of warmth...xx

  14. Oh but you bring back memories with that rhyme, sitting on my father's knee as he said the rhyme and made the church with his hand. That was very long ago.
