Why Poke Pins In Dream Balloons

THIS PHOTOGRAPH was snapped by my daughter several months ago at an art gallery event in Vancouver. Filling an entire room with balloons is kinder to the environment than sending them adrift in the air. But the image played in my mind as a metaphor for all the blocked creative potential, wishes and goals bursting to get loose and not yet realized. Keeping dreams afloat isn’t easy but sticking a pin in them surely does not help them soar.

  1. What an amazing photo! I love the contrast between the pink balloons and the men's suits. My congratulations to the talented photographer along with many hugs for her and for her wonderful parents at Christmas and the coming year.

  2. Oh, wonderful, Penelope! I like to think that, as the dreams escape and sore to freedom, the pretty pink plastic will gently shrink and head straight to the recycling bin :) In the mean time, that image will bring pleasure every time your readers think about it. I'll be thinking of you and your family over Christmas. Wishing you peace, love, laughter and lots more blogging fun too!

  4. Merry Christmas, Penelope! To me, this photo looks symbolizing people under the pressure, though pressure is not so strong around one person. We are free to do anything if only fair to keep our dreams alive, no matter how real life and dream often collide. Nothing can get in the way.

I’ve enjoyed your posts, especially the way of linking your thoughts to the photography, throughout the year. Wish you and your family all the best for 2012.

  5. what an amazing photo! It reminds me of being in a room of bubble gum! Not that I have...but wouldn't it be fun to have bubble gum scent throughout the room!

  6. Interesting picture, the balloons are bubble gum coloured. I imagine them getting bigger and bigger and then bursting, and covering everyone in a gooey pink layer.
Beast wishes for the New Year!
