Yellow Sunbursts In The Rain

THEIR HEADS WERE HEAVY from the overnight downpour in southwest BC. It was a cold March this year and the daffodils that arrived late were a sudden burst of yellow outside my door.

Buttery bright and a gardner's delight, they never fail to appear ...

dangling like bells from the weight of the raindrops.

More daffodils opened up later that day at Elgin Heritage Park. They were planted by a bench ... perhaps in memory of a loved one who had passed.

Their sunny color mingled with the drab shrubbery left by winter. The flowers were a welcomed sight along puddle strewn pathways.

  1. Your daffodils are gorgeous. I love the way they look with a spring shower leaving water droplets on them.

  2. I read that it is a photographer's trick to carry a spray bottle to add drops to flowers, thus producing more beautiful shots. You and I haven't needed that extra advantage lately, Penelope :) Like you, I really appreciate those splashes of lemon yellow to cheer the more dreary days, and your photos were so glorious this morning, their brightness jumped right off the screen and into my day!

  3. Lovely spring blooms but they sure do get beaten down by the rain.

  9. I really like the splashes of colour that appear all over the parks this time of year, whether they be daffodils or crocuses. Carol is right we have not needed any artificial water droplets here recently.

  10. That's a beautiful series of photos from the single flower heavy with rain to the wide view of flowers by the water.

  13. “Sunbursts of yellow”, I like this phrase. The white daffodils bring freshness and the yellow ones bring cheerfully hope and optimism. I feel like wearing something yellow.

  16. These are beautiful photos. I picked my first daffodils yesterday, - not quite in bloom, but woke up to their lovely yellow cheerfulness this morning.
